Chau Doc dragon boat race to kick off |

Victoria Hotels & Resorts will run its 5th “Dragon Boat Races†at Victoria Chau Doc Hotel on May 15 in collaboration with the Chau Doc Sports Center, to promote Chau Doc as a destination for local and foreign tourists.
The Dragon Boat Races are held annually in celebration of the Ba Chua Xu Festival and takes place on the Bassac River from the Chau Doc Basa Fish Park to just past the Victoria Chau Doc Hotel. Around 20 teams from neighboring areas such as Phu Tan, Chau Phu, An Phu, Tan Chau districts, Chau Doc Town of An Giang Province, Dong Thap Province and Can Tho City will compete in the race in 3 categories: 500, 700 and 1000m races in team of 10 athletes and team of 20 athletes for male, and 10 athletes for female. The prizes for 1000m races are from VND700,000 to VND2 million, VND500,000 to VND1.5million for 700m races and VND 300,000 to VND1.2 million for 500m races.
The past Dragon Boat races proved to be a very successful event coinciding with the Ba Chua Xu Festival which is held annually at the Ba Chua Xu Temple from the 23rd night to the 27th day of the 4th lunar month. The washing of the statue is the main event of the festival |
